I left Max's ball at home so i could focus on running; at least till we got to the creek. Then I had to pull out the Blackberry adjust my tunes and snap a few photo's.
Disclaimer; Max is not my dog, he is a loaner. This is my dog.
My chiropractor had felt my calves last year when I was going through this injury and said they felt extremely tight and that because of that the tendons were getting worked hard and kept tight. And I guess because of this one of them became ruptured easily.
So last year I not only started stretching my calves religioulsly but I also have been doing some deep tissue work with one of these:
The stick is an awesome tool and comes in many sizes but this travel size is perfect for the limbs. A larger one would maybe be great for the back and shoulders. Even after all the stretching and sticking it my calves still tightened up pretty good while running uphill today. I just stopped and stretched them lightly and it seemed to get me through the run. Another thing I thing really helps and probably is the important is to stretch after the run. I would have to day this goes for any sport not just snowshoe running.I also use one of these to stretch out my calves.
Well I hope all this preaching will keep me committed to stay un-injured and maybe even help somebody else in some way or another.
Cheers,
Dan
